The more I study and pray to see the core or central truth of it all, our existence and God’s plan, purpose and reason for it, the more I find it, unsurprisingly, begins and ends in Jesus, the Word made flesh. Everything in scripture, Genesis to Revelation, looks forward to, exemplifies and points back toward our Messiah. He is the incarnate expression of the fullness and glory of God. All scripture is a unified declaration and narration of the who, what, where and why of Christ and therefore God.
I find it interesting then in John 1:18 when it reads, “No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known” that the word for “side” is alternatively translated as bosom. Bosom is generally considered “the breast, conceived of as the center of feelings or emotions” or in more current understanding, the heart. In other words, “No one has ever seen God; the only begotten, who is the heart of the Father, he has made him known.” Unveiled by the Spirit of God, scripture is the lens through which we see the Son of God revealed and Jesus is the window through which we peer into the very heart of God. The heart of God is where it all begins and ends. Creation begins and ends in Jesus. The law, Torah or instruction, begins and ends in Jesus. Grace begins and ends in Jesus. Salvation begins and ends in Jesus. Truth begins and ends in Jesus. Life begins and ends in Jesus. All these things find their beginning and ending and fullest expression in Jesus who is “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”
Thank the God of creation for such an immeasurable gift, the gift of His heart, which broken and bruised poured out His love in blood on our behalf so that in revealing His love for us we might know love and return it freely and in full measure of our ability to Him who made us. I pray with all my being that I and all who believe may, give nothing less than our full measure of love, devotion and life to the One who first gave His all to us! All glory and honor and power to the One True King forever and ever, amen.
